BACK IN MY DAY...I'd have to say that I'm a pretty old deviant. I know, I know, there's a lot of people who are both older in age and older in time spent on the site, but, for the most part, I feel ancient on here sometimes. I joined way back in 2002 at about the time
lolly became active as `
lllo0o0olll.
Some of you may be wondering just who
lolly is, I would imagine. Until today, he was the Director of Community Development for the site, and under his command I've seen deviantART open it's community up to completely new ways of thinking and develop the this place into something that is friendly and approachable.
And as some of you may remember,
lolly took over this position from °
jark during a time of complete and total deviantART chaos. Launching from the old, stagnant close-minded community approach,
lolly transformed the position of Community Development to something that didn't feel like Nazi Germany rule. In fact, he has always been quite nice. He even would listen to my feedback. And, at that time, I was just a little peon (though some would say I still am

).
SO WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL?I would have to say that
lolly changed the face of this site for the better. It helped put an end to the stuck up elitist image of the deviantART staff and made room for a group of people who were actually community leaders. Although many people do not remember deviantART in 2002, I would say it was a less than friendly place, especially for a 12 or 13 year old kid like myself.
When I first met
lolly, he was actually a plain deviant like myself who would spend hours in the forums spreading pure wisdom and life teachings
... or something like that.
But from those humble beginnings, I've seen him become a real leader that supported a thriving community that continues to grow each year. He's even been there for the most important events in my own deviant history! In fact, it was he and +
spyed who helped create the llama emoticon on that fateful day. And, he was the one who was there when I got my seniorship. He saw me become Creative staff, and also gave me advice on something extremely huge and top secret I'm hoping to do in the future for deviantART.
GET TO THE POINT ALREADY!All in all, I guess I'm saying it's sad to see him go... but the good news is he'll be even more active art wise and probably get right back into the community scene. So, I guess it's not farewell, but it's still sad to see another era come to a close.

And.. why does lolly's name no longer have any sort of status symbol next to it?
Well, that's the full story I suppose. But yeah, sort of... odd.
